Why is it so important for you to seek an internship opportunity? A solid internship experience can be an effective way for you to get your foot in the door as an entry-level recruit. The job market is increasingly competitive and internships have become an important differentiator in the marketplace.
The term internship means “any official or formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession” (source: Random House Unabridged Dictionary). Internship types vary widely: an internship for management trainees; an internship for law students; a physician who has recently graduated from medical school and is learning medical practice in a hospital under supervision, prior to beginning a residency program; an internship for engineering students; an internship for scientists; an internship for journalism students, and an internship for public office are only a few examples.
An entry-level job is a job that is normally designed or designated for recent graduates of a given discipline, and doesn't ask for prior experience in the field or profession. This may require some on-site training. Recent graduates from high school or college usually take entry-level positions. Entry-level jobs which are targeted at college graduates often offer a higher salary. These positions are more likely to require specific skills and knowledge. Most entry-level jobs offered to college graduates are full-time permanent positions.
